August Newsletter

August Newsletter

Good Morning, I hope this newsletter finds you all well and you have managed to dodge the winter coughs and colds.  We had a family trip to the snow on Friday and it was just magic to take advantage of the beautiful snow that had managed to fall the week before.  Today feels like spring has sprung, it is a glorious sunny day here but we would love a good drop of rain.  Our farm so needs it....as does most of our country and many other farms and regions... Yesterday, I added a heap of fabrics into the On Sale page, so take a look at those, everything I listed yesterday is 40% off and some are over 40%.  I am totally making way for new stock to arrive... and also doing a bit of a spring clean...everything looks so different when the light shines in... We have received some fabulous new stock since my last newsletter:   Spotted by Zen Chic - Free patterns and ideas can be found here Safari Life by Stacey Iest Hsu We have Layer Cakes, Charm Squares and metreage available. Shelbyville by Jo Morton Grunge Metallic by Basic Grey Spring 2019 Collective by Kaffe Fassett featuring two free quilt patterns you can find them here and here I have also kitted this Free Pattern from Free Sprit fabrics using Tula Pink Fabrics you can find it on the website here Also just another little update for you, we have just finished our 75th block in our Farmers Wife Quilt along, we only have 36 blocks left to stitch.  The quilts are looking amazing so far and all so different.  It is very exciting to think in January we will have a finished quilt.  Yay... So we will be looking at kicking off another project to quilt a long with in January, we did all find that the group environment has kept us stitiching.. However, I think we will undertake a smaller project next year. We have also restocked our Karen Kay Buckley scissors this month.  Karen has released a new pair of pink handled scissors in the large size.  You can find all her scissors listed in the shop. Our pattern section has also had a major restock this month.  We stock by annie patterns Free Bird Quilting Designs Patterns Focus on Quilts Patterns Tied with Ribbon Patterns just to name a few. One of the big discussion points around my class stitching table are needles.  Which needles do you use to hand stitch?  I use a Sue Daley size 9 or a Bohin Long Applique Size 9 for my EPP projects and a Sue Daley number 15 for my needleturn applique projects.  We have all tried different size needles with different size eyes and it really does come to down to trying out a few different needles with different shaped eyes, as some shapes for some people are easier to thread.  I just know that when you find something you love you will stick with it.. I also encourage you to change your needle reguarly, especially if you are English Paper Piecing as when you touch the needle to the cardboard it does take the edge off over time.  You will wonder why you didn't change it sooner... So go change that needle and I will see you next month where I will be back to talk about thread. Regards Mandyx
